To ensure MyLogin contains all the resources your users need, we offer both applications (which you log into) and 'Shortcuts'. Shortcuts are quick links to web pages and resources that don't require any sign-in, like BBC Bitesize or Micro:Bit
Shortcut Library
You can find the shortcuts available in our library by navigating to the 'app directory' then filtering to 'shortcuts'
To add it to your dashboard, simply click into the shortcut and select 'add to my apps'
You can then set display rules - just like you can for applications
Creating Shortcuts
You also have the flexibility to add your own custom shortcuts (or quick links) to student and teacher dashboards. These simple tiles can direct users to any web resource you choose – perhaps your school intranet, a specific learning module that doesn't need a login, or any other useful site.
To create a shortcut:
- Navigate to 'My Apps'
- Select 'New shortcut'
- Add the shortcut name and link (easiest way is to copy this directly from your browser)
- When you paste in the URL it will offer you the option to 'Get Info' - which will try to obtain a logo and short description from the website directly, if available. You can change these later if you're not happy with them
- Once these have been fetched, take time to review them and choose to 'keep' or 'discard' the suggested logo and description. You can also chose to keep the description but make edits to it after, if you wish.
- You can also choose to add your own logo and description if you prefer
- Lastly if the resource you are adding is only for temporary use, for example SATs week, trains week or sports day, you can set a time limit on these apps so they only appear during a particular period. This can help keep users dashboards clear and uncluttered. Set 'Available From' if you want the shortcut to appear at a later date. Set 'Available Until' if you want it to disappear after a certain amount of time. You do not need to set either if you simply want the shortcut to be available.
- Once you have created the shortcut you can set display rules for it in the same way you would with applications. Simple find the shortcut in your 'My Apps' page and select 'edit'
- Then select 'display to selection' and chose who you would like to have access to the shortcut on their dashboard. You can base this on user type, class, house, registration or year.
